Today we are focusing on teen racing sensation Damani Marcano, he’s a future star in the making. In the past month Damani has been signed by the famous Team Hard Racing, owned by Tony Gilham, to compete in the Volkswagen Racing Cup. He will make his debut during 2015, after signing to become part of Gilham’s ‘Young Driver Development Programme’ for the foreseeable future.

Damani, who is 16 years old, is full of potential and enthusiasm. He’s raced karts in the past but now he’s stepping up to cars. His goal is to race in the BTCC. He is a bright boy who wants to make it in the motorsport world and be very successful and competitive. He always demonstrates huge potential when racing. He is looking forward to making his debut in the VW Racing Cup during the 2015 season and competing with Team Hard throughout the season. He has been competing in karts for the past two years. He ended his kart racing back on the 7th of December at Rye House.

In 2012 he was on the podium multiple times, including first place, in the ‘Rye House Arrive & Drive Junior Hire Kart Series’. The next year he went on to race in the Hoddesdon Kart Club Junior Rotax Championship where he took a championship 3rd in his first season. During his time in racing he has raced against many drivers who are a lot more experienced than him yet he has been just as competitive as them, if not more. It was when he was stood on the top step of the podium at Rye House, the same track that Lewis Hamilton’s career started at, that Damani realized that racing was his dream. He progressed through the ranks in karts at a great speed and that’s how he has managed to get to where he is now. He shows that with determination, enthusiasm and the right support that teens can accomplish and achieve some really great things. He’s hoping that once people read and hear about his story, that they will become inspired and chase their dreams like Damani is.

When speaking to Damani about his success he said “Being taken on by Team Hard is an incredible opportunity and it is exactly what I am looking for and have been working towards. It will be a huge learning curve for me as I have never raced a car before.” He added “I am still too young for a road driver’s license, I will juggle school with training as I have my GCSE’s to focus on but I am determined to make it work. I’m proud to show that if you work hard and dream big, great things really can happen because my dream is already becoming a reality.” He is ready to get out on track to do testing soon, first he needs to take his ARDS test as soon as he turns 16. Tony Gilham was full of praise for Damani. He said “ We have been keeping an eye on Damani for a while now and he continues to exceed all our expectations, he’s progressing at a rapid and impressive rate. It is very important that we help and support our drivers of the future, young people are excelling more and more, Damani is a prime example. His professionalism has already shone through on and off track and in today’s motorsport world it is so important to be the complete package. Damani fits these criterias perfectly. He is very comfortable behind the wheel and in front of the cameras and we are extremely excited to be a part of his ongoing development as a racing driver. We are under no illusions that this is a big step and we are behind him 100 percent and this will be working closely with him to make the most of this opportunity.”

In 2013 Damani started his debut season in club level karting. He went on to finish 3rd in the Hoddesdon Kart Club (HKC) Championship at Rye House. For this he was awarded the club’s ‘Most Improved Driver’ award. His progress and performance surprised many people who watched him race. With less than 2 years in club level karting Damani has already achieved lots of top 3 finishes and fastest laps against other drivers who have over 8 years of experience in racing.

He is really looking forward to starting to test the Volkswagen cup car after he has taken his ARDS test ,which he has now passed. He knows it is going to be a struggle and a battle but he is going to give it 110 percent to make the most of the amazing opportunity.
