Chris Brown headed down to Brands Hatch on Friday ready to compete in the final round of the Cannons Motor Spares Tin Tops Championship. The final races of the season were scheduled to take place on Saturday 7th of November. He knew the weekend was looking to be a rather wet one so his aim was to bring the car home in one piece, he wasn’t too fussed about what position he finished in.
Saturday came round and at 10:10 it was time for the Cannons Motor Spares Tin Tops to go out on track and qualify. They were the fourth session out, the rain had started to fall right before they were due to come out and qualify. The track was extremely slippery, this saw every single car on the grid going for slides and a fair few of them going off the circuit. Chris managed to do 7 flying laps around the circuit in his Ford Fiesta XR2. His best lap was set on lap 6 which was a lap time of 1:10.315. This put him in 21st place on the grid for race one.

As Chris cut the revs down to slow down to bring it into the pit lane after taking the chequered flag, the car cut out and wouldn’t restart. He got towed back to the paddock so he could try and find what was wrong with the car. When he got it back to the paddock he changed the coil pack, spark plugs and also cut out a piece of the loom that he thought looked a bit dodgy but for some unknown reason the car would still not spark up.
This meant Chris had to sit out of both races due to not being able to repair the unknown issue on the car. He was absolutely gutted to have to miss out on racing in the two races. Chris will now look to change components on the car which he did not have spares of over the winter to have the car ready to be competing again next year.
