James Alford headed to Brands Hatch, located in Kent, to race in the BARC South Eastern Centre run ‘Quaife Canons Motorspares Tin Tops’ on Bank Holiday Monday in his Renault Clio. He headed into the weekend not knowing how well it would go as he was running a new suspension.

He headed out to qualify unaware of how the car would perform but was impressed with the car and new suspension when he managed to set a lap time of 58.053 in to qualify him in fifteenth out of twenty eight cars on the circuit. His sights turned to race one where he was hoping to fight to continue heading forward and making progress.

Race one came around, he lined up on the grid ready to start. He got a pretty good start and enjoyed battles with multiple drivers throughout the race. James felt he made progress with the car during the race as he was beginning to get more used to the handling of the car. The race was brought to an abrupt halt when red flags were put out after a four car crash occurred on the exit of Druids. James narrowly missed the Citroen Saxo of Chris Bicknell, which was the cause of the red flags. He also received a tap on the rear of the car from the red Peugeot Gti of Terry Waller, which was one of the other cars that caused the race to be terminated early. James finished the race in twelfth place with a Citroen Saxo each side of him.

James was happy with the improvement considering how busy and competitive the race was. He turned his focus to race two which took place later in the day. He was hoping to be able to push on to take a top ten finish.

James headed out onto the grid to line up for race two, with the top ten finish in his mind. From the get go he was having battles with Steve Everson in his Citroen Saxo. The two had a race long battle with fair racing between them. They swapped positions multiple times throughout the race. James managed to outdrag Everson across the line to take seventh place. He was pleased that he had managed to secure the top ten finish he was hoping for during the race. The new suspension was definitely helping James to become faster throughout the races.

James will next be out on track at Brands Hatch during the BARC Weekend of the 25th and 26th of June on the Indy Circuit.
