Eurotech racer Daniel Lloyd set the fastest lap time of the weekend up until the end of the second free practice session. He set the fastest lap during the final stages of the session. The rookie to the championship has shown some extremely impressive pace since he joined at Thruxton. with just seconds of the forty-minute session remaining Lloyd pushed his Honda Civic Type R to the limit to set his personal bests in the second and third sector as well as being the fastest in sector one to string a lap time of 1:24.511 together and top the time sheets.

Tom Ingram was looking to end the session on top of the times after setting his best time in the last five laps before he was pipped by Lloyd and Ingram settled for second. The Speedworks Motorsport driver has kept his impressive record of finishing within the top three in nine of the fourteen timed practice and qualifying sessions so far during the 2016 season.

Sam Tordoff aboard his Team JCT600 with GardX BMW was the first driver to be put on the top spot on the live timing screens and he was also the first driver to get inside the 1:24 lap times. Briefly during the session West Surrey Racing held a lock out of the top three places on the timing screens. That was before the RCIB Insurance Racing duo of Michael Epps and Jake Hill briefly starred at the top of the timing screens before being shuffled down the order. Tordoff then went about improving his time, then he was joined by Tom Ingram, Jason Plato and Colin Turkington all inside the 1:24 lap times bracket. The four drivers were separated by just 0.080 seconds. For most of the session the top twenty drivers were covered by less than one second, proving just how competitive the session was becoming.

Ingram leaped to the top of the times and improved more and more during the session but nobody was able to top Lloyd’s time. Ingram managed to hold off Motorbase’s Andrew Jordan to take second with the latter taking third. Tordoff settled for fourth, which was impressive considering he was carrying seventy-five kilograms of weight on board. Silverline Subaru BMW Racing took fifth, sixth and seventh but nobody was expecting to see team boss Warren Scott ahead of Jason Plato and Colin Turkington during the closing stages of the session. Handy Motorsport’s Rob Austin and Power Maxed Racing’s Hunter Abbott both run a trouble free session to finish eighth and ninth. Jack Goff rounded out the top ten in his Team IHG Rewards Club BMW.
