Maximum Motorsport’s Dennis Strandberg claimed his maiden pole position in the Volkswagen Racing Cup at Spa-Francorchamps. He took pole position by 0.448 seconds.  After the start of the session got delayed the Volkswagen Racing cup went out on to the Belgian circuit for the qualifying session.

Simon Rudd showed what pace he has at the start of the session when he became the first driver to dip into the 2:50 lap times. Championship leader Bobby Thompson was one of the last few cars to exit the pit lane, he quickly got up to speed around the 7 kilometre circuit. As times began to drop it was Jack Walker-Tully who topped the times with Phil House just behind in second. There were a number of new entries entered for the away trip to Spa. Strandberg was one of the few, he immediately proved what he can do by putting in a lap time of 2:46.870. Thompson slotted in just behind but it was clear Strandberg would be a man on a mission this weekend.

As the chequered flag was brought out it was Strandberg who was able to hold onto pole position after improving his fastest lap time to a 2:46.362. Jack Walker-Tully was the man lining up alongside in second. The second row of the grid is filled with championship leading drivers Bobby Thompson and Phil House. On the third row of the grid it will be Team Hard drivers Simon Rudd and Toby Davis. Davis sat out during the end of the session. A number of regulars from the circuit will be missing from the grid this weekend, there will be sixteen cars lining up on the grid for the eighth race of the season so far.
