HHC’s Will Tregurtha has been crowned the provisional 2016 Simpson Race Products Ginetta Junior Champion after finishing in second place during race three behind double Silverstone winner Dave Wooder. Tregurtha headed into the final race of the weekend knowing if he finished ahead of rival Stuart Middleton that he would take the title, he drove a very composed race to take second and seal the crown. The HHC ace got the best start off the line to lead through the first corner with the pole sitter Charlie Fagg dropping to third behind Dave Wooder. Tregurtha’s advantage was soon taken away when Wooder dived back past at Copse on lap two. The top two then worked together to start breaking away from the pack behind.
It was all about to change for third on lap three when Harry King climbed up from fifth to sit in third ahead of Fagg and Sebastian Priaulx. Fagg managed to climb back ahead of King to retake third on the next lap, he held the position for a few laps before King took it back again. The battle between the three was stopped when the safety car was brought out after Greg Johnson spun into the gravel at Copse, the halt in the race brought the pack back up to the tails of the top two.
Wooder got a good restart and led for the remainder of the race which was brought to a stop early after a red flag was brought out due to the spinning Daniel Harper being collected by Anthony Ayres.
Tregurtha celebrated his championship title success with the HHC team and King completed the overall podium as well as topping the Rookie class podium. Charlie Fagg finished in fourth. A good drive from Middleton saw him climb up through the field from eighteenth up to take fifth but unfortunately was not enough to keep his title fight alive. Priaulx dropped back to sixth ahead of Tom Wood at the flag, with both completing the rookie class podium. Kyle Hornby, Seb Perez, Lewis Brown rounded out the overall top ten.
