On the 29th of January Martin Buchan took part in the first round of the Covkartsport Winter Series. The circuit was greasy for the opening session of the day, his first session was a practice which set the grid for the pre-final. The rookie kart racer’s best lap time was a 1:16.424 which put him to start the pre-final race in fourth. The Daytona Tamworth circuit was greasy for the practice session.
For the pre-final race Martin lined up in fourth ready to start. At the start of the race Martin was crashed into and taken out by another competitor. He did not give up, he just carried on and fought back like the true racer he is. Throughout the remainder of the race Martin spun twice on his own but once again just carried on without giving up. The circuit was wet for the opening race. He managed to get in to eleventh by the time the flag came out to finish the race.
This finish put him to start the A final from eleventh on the grid. The rain had begun to fall during the races between Martin’s pre-final and A final race, making the circuit rather slippery as well as the mud that was around the circuit from the public track time from Saturday. During the A final race Martin managed to get up to fifth by the time the chequered flag was brought out to end the race. His fastest lap time during the A final was a 1:13.944.
Martin feels that if he had not been spun at the start of the pre-final and had a couple of spins on his own he could potentially have taken a podium. The next time Martin is out competing will be the second round of the Covkartsport Winter Series at Whilton Mill on the 19th of February.
